Language Garden.

In 2018, the Prinsentuin in Leeuwarden will be transformed into the Language Garden, full of adventures for children from 0 to 12 years, their older brothers/sisters and their parents/grandparents. Playground features, interactive installations, exciting routes: there’s plenty to do for families and school classes!

The artists Machiel Braaksma, Bouke Groen and Sibe Jan Kramer will design and make various (play) objects. At the same time, Paul van Dijk, Riemkje Pitstra and Mirjam van Houten will write special stories. Together, this will lead to fun and enlightening routes. (Young) visitors can play with language, experience language and create language themselves!

Language adventure
The youngest children go looking for Tomke’s friends (toddlers) or Rinze de Kikkert (group 1 and 2) in the Language Garden. A world of languages opens up for groups 3, 4, and 5 in the garden. They will go on a quest looking for – and discovering familiar but also unknown languages and secret messages. For groups 6, 7 and 8, an exciting (language) adventure is waiting. What happens to you if you come to a country where you do not know the language? How does language affect you? What happens if it is forbidden to speak your own language? And can we all create a new language together? More information and sign up on Kultuerfilter.nl.

Going out with ‘heit&mem’
Over the course of fifteen Saturdays, there will be a special programme for children aged 0-12 and their moms and dads: going out with ‘heit&mem’ (Frisian for dad and mom). But please, do take your grandparents, uncles and aunts, siblings, cousins and whoever else, because these days are lots of fun for the whole family. On each of these days, you can meet writers, musicians and other performers in the Language Garden or you can take part in language workshops and several activities. You will be able to read more about the exact programme on this website later on, but save the dates now!
