Community Projects: Language Adventure.

Within Lân fan taal is of course a place for ‘mienskip’ (means community) projects! Below are the projects that are supported by the special LFT subsidy scheme and are related to ‘language adventure’. They are all public-oriented cultural activities with special attention to multilingualism.

Leeuwarden Language Safari (historical language treasure hunt)

The Leeuwarden Language Safari will take place every second Saturday of the month between April and October. During the Safari, guide and historian Girbe Buist will lead participants past twenty monuments and locations in Leeuwarden, all of which have a link with Frisian expressions and expressions that are typical of Leeuwarden. The story behind both the expressions and the monuments will be told in a vivid and exciting way. After the tour, participants can take part in a short quiz over a cup of coffee at Café de Prins: how much truth is there in proverbs about happiness from Leeuwarden? Language Safari participants will receive a brochure with the overall route and background stories afterwards. The tour starts at the VVV (Tourist Information Office) in Leeuwarden (Sophialaan 4) at 2 p.m. and lasts one and a half hours. The tour costs €7.50 (including coffee, quiz and booklet). Skrieve in ut Stadfries

A symposium with workshops focused on writing in the Stadfries language, including a competition to translate the fairy tales of the brothers Grimm into Stadfries. The publication of “Sprokies fan Grimm in ut Stadfries” will be launched at the end of 2018.

(Frisian ballads)

With a great deal of humour and self-mockery, the female choir “Jankfoddekoar Tûzen Triennen” from Britsum sing self-written songs in Frisian about the subjects most important to women. With well-known melodies and an interactive presentation, their performances are guaranteed to surprise and they always delight their audiences. 2017 is the choir’s twentieth anniversary year, which they are celebrating with a special anniversary tour entitled “Sterke Punten” (Strong Points).
