[PRESS RELEASE – Leeuwarden, 11 July 2018] – On Friday 27 July the third Lân fan taal projection on the Oldehove will premiere. It is the poetic short film One of Us, made by singer/poet Nynke Laverman, filmmaker Douwe Dijkstra and composer/percussionist Sytze Pruiksma. With the collaboration of Catalan poet Eduard Escoffet, Flemish actor Hendrik Aerts and Serbian-Dutch dancer Dunja Jocic, this is a promising international and multilingual production.
Do we still speak the language of nature, or have we retreated so far into our human world that we no longer understand it? This question, which was also the core of Wachter, Nynke Lavermans’ last performance, is the point of departure of the third projection on the Oldehove: the poetic short film One of Us. A young woman who appears to have it all, namely a life in the big city with a good job and a kind partner, is nevertheless unhappy. She feels less and less at home in her world of people and walls, and dreams of being a plant. One fine day, her dream comes true. Nynke Laverman wrote the surreal script, consisting of five spoken word pieces in Frisian, and it marks a new step in her work. She asked poet Eduard Escoffet from Barcelona to respond in Catalan, his native language. The work of Douwe Dijkstra combines film, animation and visual effects. He has received awards from around the globe for his films, including Green Screen Gringo from 2016. He worked with Serbian dancer Dunja Jocic and Flemish actor Hendrik Aerts on One of Us. Sytze Pruiksma was responsible for the driving musical score. Click here for the Frisian and Catalan texts with English translation.
Premiere day with pre- and after-program
The film premieres on Friday 27 July at 22.45. On that evening, Douwe Dijkstra will give a masterclass in Slieker Film (the film theatre) at 8 pm. He shows what his unique way of making films is with making-of material and earlier work. This way the attendees will also get an insight into how One of Us was created. At 21.30 hours a support program starts in Obe. Marijke Roskam interviews Nynke Laverman and Sytze Pruiksma. As an extra guest at the table, Eva Meijer joins. She is a philosopher and writer of, among other things, ‘Het Vogelhuis’. The conversations are mixed with live performances by Nynke, Sytze and Eduard Escoffet. After the projection (22.45-23.00) there is an after party with DJ in Obe. All parts are accessible free of charge. For the masterclass in Slieker registration is required [register here for the Masterclass of Douwe Dijkstra].
