The province of Friesland, together with the Dutch Foundation for Literature and the Frisian publishers, is already stimulating the internationalisation of literature in Friesland in numerous ways.
This involves exchanges with other minority languages, as well as supporting translators from and into Frisian with scholarships. In addition, lots of new Frisian-language books are brought to the attention of international publishers and agents at the Frankfurt Book Fair every year. As a UNESCO City of Literature, Leeuwarden is also explicitly aiming to internationalise literature in Friesland, and wants to further expand existing schemes.
The main task of Boeken fan Fryslân is to promote all Frisian books. They have been carrying out this work with projects such as the Dichter van Fryslân (Poet of Friesland) the Berneboekeambassadeur (Children’s Book Ambassador), and the Sutelaksjes, while also making podcasts of Frisian stories with the broadcaster, Omrop Fryslân.
