Saturday, 29 September, marks the 60th celebration of World Deaf Day, this year in Leeuwarden! The day program is laden with lectures and activities. The evening event is a titillating MuteSounds party!
The day program spans between 10:30 and 17:00 hours. With its numerous workshops, lectures and activities, an information market and a deaf entrepreneurs’ market, this promises to be a very interesting day. The three main topics are language, culture and community. The annual ‘Dovenschap’ (Deafness) award will also be presented to a person or organisation that has made an extraordinary contribution to the deaf community over many years. Free entry! Party with vibrating floor and visuals
The evening event is an exciting party for the deaf and hard of hearing, as well as for the hearing guests: Mute Sounds! The party is normally held in The Hague, but this year’s event will be hosted by Leeuwarden. What can you expect? Very loud bass, cool DJs, enchanting visuals and letting your hair down on the legendary vibrating floor. Tickets can be ordered online or purchased at the box office at Neushoorn (prices vary between € 8 in the pre-sale period to € 12.50 at the door). Come and experience it for yourself!

Hoor Friesland will collaborate with Slieker Film to organise a mini Film Festival about deafness in cinema on the days around World Deaf Day, from 27 to 30 September. Please visit the Slieker website for the program.
